Sisters: Jenn and Kourtney

Lovely. They are just so lovely. Jenn’s bright, cheery presence perfectly complements Kourtney’s sweet, sincere smile. And they are certainly two of the most gorgeous girls I’ve ever laid eyes on!

Jenn is a dear old friend of mine from college, and she’s definitely one of the things I miss most about being at OU. That’s really saying something, ’cause I miss my beloved Oklahoma like you wouldn’t believe! Jenn and I don’t get to see each other nearly as much as I’d like, but I jump at every little chance I get. Though I’ve known her all these years, I’ve never actually photographed her. It was time for that to change!

Jenn and I managed to coordinate a very small slot of time during which we’d both be in OKC. It worked out just perfectly! We braved the 30 mph wind gusts down in Bricktown and had a really great time to boot! Jenn was wanting to take some photos with her super-cute little sister Kourtney before moving away for the amazing new job she’s just gotten. I couldn’t think of a better excuse to do the shoot!

I love how the images turned out; fun, bright and crisp, just how I like ’em! Though with these two beauties rockin’ it for the camera, one really can’t go wrong!

This one might be the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. I looked everwhere for a patch of grass for Jenn and Kourt to play in, but the only patch in sight was this puffy, deep grass on an incline. They went to lay down, and the grass just swallowed them up! It was a pretty hilarious sight.

Rockin’ their fiercest ANTM looks. Tyra would never be able to handle hottness like this!

Jenn and Kourt – I’m SO glad we got to do the shoot! You couldn’t be more fabulous if you tried! :)

Emily and Micah

My husband Mark has been friends with Micah for quite some time. They met at KU while pondering the deeper things in life as philosophy undergrads, and quickly took to each other’s affinity for logic puzzles, existentialism, and other things that I sometimes pretend to understand.
When I started dating Mark, I loved hanging out with Micah from time to time. We’d meet up on Mass or head over to Zen Zero after church.

Then one day, I noticed that we’d been seeing less and less of our friend Micah. In fact, it seemed like he’d all but disappeared completely. What on earth had been keeping Micah so busy??
Enter Emily. Sweet, beautiful Emily. And boy, am I glad she did!

Emily and Micah complete each other in a way that the world is rarely blessed to see. They love each other so genuinely and completely, which made it really easy for me to capture their sincerity through my lens. We spent the latter half of a warm, sunny Saturday afternoon meandering about some of the lesser-known Lawrence locales, wrapping up the evening on the incredible KU campus. So fun!!

All right; before I go any further, can I just say that Emily totally bears an uncanny resemblance to Reese Witherspoon? Don’t you think? I mean, just look at these next two. Oh, hello Reese!

This next image was taken about 2 seconds after Emily thought I meowed at them. Stranger things have come out of my mouth while taking pictures, that’s for sure. Maybe I was trying to make a zebra sound? I’ll never really know… What does a zebra sound like, anyway?

Emily’s favorite flowers are tulips. Lucky for us, this is THE week to see the tulips out on the KU campus! If you haven’t been there lately, get your butt over to campus ’cause it is crazy beautiful this time of year.

I have to give mad props to Mark for helping me scout some of these locations. Several of my favorite new spots were 100% his idea! Boy do I have the best husband in the whole wide world!

Dog blog

So, you probably don’t know me all that well. But if you do, you know that I’m just a little bit crafty…or maybe more like a LOT crafty.
Ever since I was old enough to clutch that glitter and Elmer’s tightly in my little hand, I’ve been making things. All kinds of things.

It started simple. I’d sew “detective bags” and fill them with sleuthing supplies (God love that Nancy Drew…). Maybe I was dying the Barbie’s hair purple, or making beaded decorations for the tree house. OH, and the pillows…I’ve sewn some hideous pillows in my day.
These days, it’s a little more complex.  I wake up some mornings with an urge to create, and then something inspires me. The next thing you know, I’ve knitted the dog a sweater, made a scrapbook out of tree bark, concocted a new piece of “wall art,” decoupaged a frame, or sewn myself a dress (without using a pattern, mind you). So it’s no surprise that I count my sewing machine and closet full of craft supplies among my most treasured possessions.

Well, today I found myself inspired once more. Kali of Corliss Photography recently posted this super adorable image on her blog:

Melts your little heart, doesn’t it?! Now, I know that my dog is not NEARLY this cute (he’s got a face that only a mama could love), but I wanted some photos like this anyway!

Since I’m not a studio photographer, I don’t have a ton of typical studio equipment. But when I get that creative urge, all patience and reason flies out the window. I would have a similar picture, and I would have it NOW!

So what’s a girl to do? Well, a quick raid of the fabulous crafts closet and a trip to Hancock Fabrics was just the ticket. I ended up sewing myself a bigger softbox for my strobes and making a cute little doggie-sized backdrop setup. No welding (or anything equally dangerous) involved.
As it turns out, softboxes are harder to sew than one might imagine. It worked about as well as the time I tried to dye Barbie’s hair using purple food coloring. Okay, it wasn’t quite that bad, but I’m thinking a round two on this little project is definitely a must.

Despite the janky setup and my dog’s lack of photogenic talent, I grabbed one quick shot of Baxter doing his crooked sit. He sits in a new funny way nearly ever day, but he never sits symmetrically like a normal dog. His legs are always in various states of entanglement. We think it’s cute.

And just since he’s a little bit self conscious about his crooked sit, he wanted a tongue one too. He thinks he’s got a really nice tongue.
