If there’s one thing I miss about Lawrence, it might be fall. I miss how the trees glow around Potter Lake, and the way the bright red leaves line both sides of Mass Street. I miss watching the “peace” guy go from carrying his bright tie-dyed t-shirt slung over his shoulder, to wearing it proudly, to finally covering it completely with a warm winter coat. I miss the way the humid air in northeast Kansas smells, and I even miss seeing the flocks of college girls pull their Uggs and leggings out of storage for another chilly season on campus.

Lucky me, though; I got to spend the most beautiful weekend of the year up in Lawrence shooting a fabulous wedding, and I also got to meet up with the most wonderful couple for an evening of shooting on Mass Street and on campus.

As if the radiant foliage and perfect weather weren’t enough, Taylor and Jacob did not disappoint. They are fun, friendly, sincere, laid-back, and they love each other in a way that makes my camera very happy. They’re the kind of people that everyone wants to be friends with, and I think their warm personalities shine right through in their photos!

Thank you guys soo much for being so incredible! I can’t wait to experience your Lawrence wedding this spring the weekend after the Jayhawks dominate!

Windy, overcast, and thirty-four degrees. I bet when Louise and Joel planned their early October wedding reception, they didn’t think for a second that it would feel like the dead of winter.

Nor did I, when Louise and I planned to do a portrait session before her reception at the Garvey Center here in Wichita. When I woke up that morning, I knew we were going to have to stick to urban (well, as urban as we get here!) locations to block as much of that frigid Kansas wind as possible. That wind sure hits you hard down here in Wichita!

As I always do, I worried for nothing. Despite the weather-inappropriateness of Louise’s gorgeous, flowing strapless gown (she must have been freezing…), she rocked it out beyond belief. She and Joel have gotten this portrait thing down to an art! We didn’t have much more than 30 minutes of actual shooting time (between the warm-up sessions with the heater blasting in my car), but every time she and Joel jumped out of the car and into the elements, they posed like pros!

Can you believe how amazing they are?!

I had the opportunity to spend an evening playing with Mari a couple weeks ago. Let me tell you, she plain tired me out! Props to all the mothers who spend countless hours chasing these little ones around! I’m going to have to spend way more time at the gym if I ever hope to keep up with kids this age.
Mari was full of energy and even fuller of smiles. She’s got the whole “say cheese” thing down to an art, and didn’t seem to mind my big ol’ camera one bit. Is she not just the most beautiful little girl you’ve ever seen??
