No place like home

Though I had a fantastic time in Las Vegas for the Wedding & Portrait Photographers International conference, I am SO glad to be home in Wichita again!

I wanted to write a quick post to let everyone know that I’ve been having some problems with my blog lately, and I haven’t been getting most of my messages that were sent through the blog contact form. If yours was one of the messages that got lost, you have no idea how sorry I am! Seriously, I feel awful. Just when I think I’ve got all this technology down pat, it throws me for a loop once again.
I’ve fixed the problem, and please feel free to write again if I didn’t answer the first time. I owe you a super-thorough response and perhaps a coffee date if you live around here!

Right now I’m working on V and Y’s engagement session that I shot while I was in Las Vegas. V contacted me with this amazing concept for the shoot. She wanted to utilize the architecture at the European-themed casinos to create a series of images that one might get during a vacation throughout Europe. Despite the throngs of tourists and the omnipresence of the ubiquitous Vegas advertising (featuring not-so-European attractions…), we had a fantastic time making some gorgeous images.

While I’ve got a slew of such images headed your way, I just had to quickly post a few that deviate somewhat from our concept. No Europe here; These are just downright Vegas-y and fun!

I’m off to Vegas…

I’m super excited to be attending WPPI in Las Vegas this year. WPPI is a huge annual photography convention, and it’s an amazing time to get inspired for the coming wedding season!

I’ll be out of the office from now til Monday the 15th. I’ll respond to emails in my downtime if the WiFi gods allow, but communication will be slow until then.
Have a great weekend!

Julie is so fabulous

They say that those who can’t do, teach. It’s unfair, I know. But apparently, that’s just the way it goes in life. I’m really hoping, though, that the saying doesn’t ring true 100% of the time.

When Carlos first approached me and wanted to buy his new wife, a burgeoning photographer, a series of photography lessons with me, I was nothing short of excited. The prospect of spending hours delving into the finer, nerdier, technical details of photography with a captive audience was nothing short of thrilling! Until the reality of it all sank in. I mean, I can’t teach! Yes yes, I do have a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction in Education (oh yes, it’s totally true…). But there’s a reason I’m not using that degree, people! TRUST me.

Julie has been a super fabulous student, and I sincerely hope my teaching skills haven’t been too disappointing. Still, I’m hoping that in my case those who can’t teach, DO. And here’s hoping that something of value will rub off on Julie as she and I play around doing what we love to do!

Today was our second lesson together, and I thought it was only appropriate that Julie have a few shots of herself. Julie’s gorgeous porcelain skin and striking red hair is music to my ears. Or to my eyes, I guess. In any case, here are a few from today!
